Georgia--Dog Number 7

Officer David Latimer and the Vincent, Alabama, Police Department waited very patiently for Georgia. She was donated to us as a very young puppy by a generous breeder in Georgia (where else?). Georgia needed time to mature into her very important job. In September of 2005, David came and met Georgia and learned to handle her. In addition to searching for missing persons, Georgia will be tracking criminals for the Vincent Police Department. We are certain that Georgia and her special talents were worth the wait.

Update from September 2006--David and Georgia were called out to track a convicted sex offender who had failed to register. Using scent material from a camp site at which he had been staying, Georgia tracked to a shed the suspect was known to have broken into. She then trailed through the woods to a road where she eventually lost the trail. The police believe the suspect was picked up in a car by his girlfriend. A call from dispatch alerted David that the suspect had been spotted a couple of miles away at a vacant house he had been frequenting. Georgia was started at the house and, after working through all of the suspect's scent that was there, she took trail and led David to a house about 75 yards away and stopped near the back door. The homeowner told the police that the suspect was not there and then denied the police permission to search the house. Based largely on Georgia's track, a search warrant was obtained. When police entered the house, they found thousands of rounds of ammunition, weapons, survival gear and some crude bomb-making materials. They also found some marijuana that was being grown and a small amount of marijuana that had been cured. The homeowner was arrested. He admitted helping the fleeing felon and verified that the suspect had been in the house--just like Georgia said!
